Calls for new laws to protect service workers, following the death of Wollongong paramedic

The Father of a Wollongong Paramedic who was fatally stabbed in the line of duty last week has launched a petition, calling for the introduction of “Stevens Law.”

Steven Tougher was killed in the carpark of a McDonalds restaurant in Campbelltown while taking a break toward the end of his overnight shift.

A 21-year-old man has since been charged with his murder.

Steven’s Dad Jeff is now calling for mandatory life sentencing for perpetrators who kill anyone in the line of duty, regardless of circumstances or state of mind.

He says it's vital these essential workers who are the very fabric of society, are protected.

The petition can be signed via the Change.org website here.
